New OC HiLight™ Multi-End Roving from Owens Corning Transforms Translucent Panel Applications

Thinner Panel Provides Superior Clarity and Enables Higher Glass Content for Strength and Stiffness Using Less Resin

Owens Corning (NYSE:OC), the leading global producer of glass fiber reinforcements for composite systems, introduced OC HiLight™ multi-end roving for translucent panels at the JEC Composites Show. This innovative solution is made with Advantex® E-CR glass and features a proprietary sizing that delivers unmatched clarity. OC HiLight™ is used in applications including skylights, cladding, greenhouses and other architectural applications.

“OC HiLight™ roving offers many advantages to laminate panel manufacturers, starting with outstanding translucence, optical quality and light transmission,” said Product Leader for chopped strand mat and assembled rovings in Europe and Asia Pacific Hans van der Steen. “The product works well in different processes and gives designers more flexibility with complex and decorative shapes.”

Higher glass content in finished laminates delivers strength and stiffness and requires less resin in a thinner panel. This translates to lower costs for manufacturers.

Designed for unsaturated polyester resin panel applications, OC HiLight™ roving achieves superior translucence versus competitive products by minimizing the appearance of white fibers, avoiding air entrapment and reducing light distortion. “We are confident that the properties of this innovative product will drive use of translucent panels in a broad range of energy-efficient building applications,” added van der Steen.
